Simplifying Domain Names and Hosting

in Internet Marketing

Marketing on the Internet should not be overlooked by any Real Estate Investor. It’s just too good!

But where do you start?

First of all, you need a domain name. The domain name for this site for example is www.ScottBritton.com

You want to own several domain names… and no there isn’t any shortage. You can name your site anything you like and the combinations are infinite.

Buy the dot com version unless you have a compelling reason to buy one of the many others variations. Its the most used and accepted.

Its a good idea to make you domain name keyword rich and descriptive. I have a site I put up for wholesaling houses in my market called www.JacksonWholesaleRealEstate.com

If you are searching for Wholesale Real Estate in Jackson, MS there is a good chance you will find this site in the search engines. It may take a little fiddling, but you can do the same thing.

I suggest you certainly buy www.YourName.com if it is available. You can check to see if the domain name you want is available by just typing it in your browser address field as if you wanted to navigate to it. If a site comes up, you’re out of luck.

Or you can go to one of the many sites that sell domain names and check on availability. It’s good to decide which site you are going to use and stick with it. The reason is you can manage all of your domain names in one place.

The site I use is www.URLZOO.com

I buy and manage all of my domain names there. There are a number of reasons to do this… not the least of which is learning one system and sticking with it. It greatly reduces your time drag. Plus… everything is in one place!

Domain names are cheap. Buy several. The longer you own a domain name the better your rankings in search engines like Google will be. So… buy early.

Next you’ll need somewhere to host your site. Hosting is also very inexpensive.

I use Hostmonster.

They charge me $6.95 per month and I can host virtually as many sites as I like on this one account. Pretty darn cheap. Plus they have all the bells and whistles. Stuff you probably don’t even know you need yet. But you will.

And… their customer service is the best. You can actually get someone on the phone when you need them 24/7/365. And they do not outsource their customer service which is a big plus.

This is a great place to start and offers the same advantages as buying all of your domain names in one place. What you don’t want is to have to complicate your life with learning more than one system. Keep it simple.

This is where you need to start. So… what are you waiting for?
